Monday, June 18th, 2001: Padres, Indians Trade Star Players
"Both teams were looking to fill a critical spot on their rosters," commented the San Diego GM, when he announced an important trade this afternoon. "Cleveland filled a need with 24-year old minor league starting pitcher Kip Wells and 25-year old reliever Willis Roberts and the Padres did, too, with 36-year old left fielder Barry Bonds, 30-year old reliever Scott Sullivan and 28-year old reliever Steve Kline.

This year Sullivan has made 17 relief appearances with 12 saves. In 15.2 innings, he has fanned 11 hitters and recorded 2 wins and 1 loss with a 1.72 ERA.
Monday, June 11th, 2001: Smith Whitewashes Indians
Sometimes even Chuck Smith of Toronto isn't sure which pitcher will show up when he takes the mound.

"I've been good sometimes and bad sometimes," he said. This time he looked good and made the Cleveland Indians look bad, blanking them by the score of 5-0.

Smith tossed a 4-hit shutout against them, totaling 3 strikeouts and giving up 3 walks.

In 2001 Smith has compiled a 6-5 record with a 3.29 ERA in 13 starts.
