The 25-year-old right fielder sustained a severe injury colliding with a player at a base, suffering a fractured elbow and will not play again. His doctor described the injury to reporters and said, "On a scale of one to three, it was a four. It was off the chart."
Thus far this season Berkman is hitting .352 with 20 home runs, 53 RBIs and 56 runs scored.
