Friday, June 8th, 2001: Cordova Toys with Philadelphia
The Phillies tried, but could not solve San Diego's Francisco Cordova, falling to the Padres 3-0. Philadelphia managed only 3 hits off Cordova, who kept opposing hitters guessing all day. In a strong route-going performance he had 7 strikeouts and walked 1.

In 12 starts this season Cordova has notched a 7-4 record and a 3.38 ERA.
Sunday, June 3rd, 2001: Cormier Whitewashes Expos
Rheal Cormier pitched a strong game in blanking the Montreal Expos 2-0, allowed no runs on 6 hits, totaled 5 strikeouts and gave up no walks.

The Philadelphia manager said he could tell right away it was going to be a good game for Cormier. "Right from the start, you could see how economical he was," he said. "He threw a lot of strikes."

So far this season Cormier has a 4-6 record with a 4.52 ERA.
Wednesday, May 30th, 2001: Injury Forces Torii Hunter Out
Philadelphia fans will be disappointed to learn that Torii Hunter developed a damaged meniscus while making a defensive play in today's game. After the doctor informed the Philadelphia Phillies manager that Hunter was expected to miss 4 weeks, the manager told the press that the rest of the team would have to step up their play until the center fielder could return. "You can't make excuses in baseball, because there's always a game tomorrow," said the team's skipper.

Thus far in 2001 Hunter is batting .288 with 10 home runs, 38 RBIs and 40 runs scored.
