Friday, June 8th, 2001: Season Ends for Shawn Holman of New York(N)
The news is bad in New York(N). The Mets have lost the services of reliever Shawn Holman for the rest of the season due to a torn rotator cuff muscle. Holman was injured in a recent game with the Houston Astros while throwing a pitch and is expected to miss 7-8 months.

During this season Holman has delivered 0 saves. In 14 relief appearances, he has 15 strikeouts in 20.2 innings with a 5.66 ERA and no wins and no losses.
Monday, June 4th, 2001: NATIONAL LEAGUE's Best Batter Announced
So far in his young career, David Ortiz has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the NATIONAL LEAGUE in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.

The 25-year-old New York(N) Mets first baseman hit at a torrid .652 clip as he collected 15 hits in 23 at-bats, 5 home runs, 12 RBIs and 9 runs scored.

This year Ortiz has hit at a .295 pace and produced 38 RBIs, 9 home runs and scored 34 runs.
Friday, June 1st, 2001: Mets Beltre Gone for Year
Adrian Beltre has to call it a season. The New York(N) Mets third baseman sustained a season-ending injury against the Montreal Expos and will not play again this year according to club doctors. Beltre was injured while running the bases. His doctors diagnosed it as a ruptured achilles tendon and stated that he would not be able to play for 8 months.

This year Beltre is batting .350 with 4 home runs. He has scored 35 runs and driven in 21.
