Monday, June 11th, 2001: Season May Be Over for A's Mecir
Oakland fans will be disappointed to learn that Jim Mecir developed a torn labrum while throwing a pitch in today's game. After the doctor informed the Oakland A's manager that Mecir was expected to miss 7 months, the manager told the press that the rest of the team would have to step up their play until the reliever could return. "You can't make excuses in baseball, because there's always a game tomorrow," said the team's skipper.

Checking out his season stats to date, Mecir has 1 save in 11 relief appearances with a 1-1 record and 2.42 ERA.
Friday, June 1st, 2001: AMERICAN LEAGUE Names Rookie of Month
A boyish Xavier Nady emerged as the latest AMERICAN LEAGUE Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Oakland deserved the honor, batting .375 with 4 home runs and 24 runs batted in. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Nady enjoy the limelight.

Presently Nady is batting .365 and has collected 7 home runs, 39 RBIs, .417 OBP and scored 35 runs.
Monday, May 28th, 2001: 5-Hit Barrage by Finley
Thanks to Steve Finley and his big bat, the A's derailed the Minnesota Twins 14-2 today at Metropolitan Stadium. The Oakland center fielder had a standout game with 5 hits in 6 at-bats.

S. Finley doubled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 7th and flied out in the 9th.

So far in 2001, Finley is batting .296 with 1 home run and 7 RBIs.
